What is Spartacus?

Spartacus was a raiding guild founded in November of 2006 by a group of friends from Michigan. What started out as a friendly guild to level and occasionally run an instance with became one of the most progressed guilds on the realm of Echo Isles. The guild met it's fate only two months prior to the upcoming expansion: Wrath of the Lich King, however, most would agree that the friendships and memories made during their time with the guild will stay with them for years to come.

This site remains not only as a tribute, but also as a means for its former members to keep in touch.

Goodbye My Friends
Posted by Danali on Sunday, September 28, 2008 (02:26:46) (227 reads)

My time with Spartacus has finally come to an end. I will always have fond memories of my friends here, however, it is time for me to move on. I guess that's one down-side of being so close to people; it makes saying goodbye so hard.

I'll never forget the first time we downed Void Reaver. How we had struggled on him for days, and then downed him with 1-man standing (and it was Surffei). I wont forget how much effort people put in to the Kael'thas fight, slowly making progress over a 3-week period. And of course, who could forget our Illidan first? Battle-ressing Divax during a phase transition at 10%. But most of all I will remember you guys. I know it's not just about progression and seeing the content, it's about the bonds you form with people in this game.

Privileges, you always put a smile on my face no matter what. You could say one word (usually "Taco") or make a random noise on vent and I would forget my problems and laugh. Surffei your words of wisdom were always inspiring, and you were always willing to spec for whatever was needed. Abril you stepped up to the plate to help me with the WWS reports. Celestiel, my twin, you were a great healer and you drove the guys crazy with your booty shaking (your's was better than mine because you're a girl IRL Wink ). You did an amazing job filling in for Dave, Asator, and you learned things quickly. Saturnsoul, you always had a good attitude regarding loot and never hesitated to pass on a piece for your off-spec. You were the first full-time boomkin to raid with us, Blackedout, and you played your spec better than anyone I had ever seen before. Deoxide, you really knew your stuff. You came in needing some significant upgrades but still pulled your weight in healing. The same goes for you Jackball. Promethium, you came in pretty late to the game, but you learned fast and showed up for every single raid and on time since you joined. Kazetobi, you were always level headed and you probably would have made a great class lead. You were another late-comer, Belmac, but you would have fit in here nicely. Eatad, I understand why you left. You have new responsibilities and the stress and work involved in this game are just too much. You were an amazing healer, Elore, and you handled situations very well when they required quick thinking and adaptation (leave it to a druid, right?). You were starting to make a nice comeback there, Fergg, and you were a great shadow priest. You took a lot of crap from us, Yu, but you were always there for us when we really needed you and I think you learned a lot and had fun. Taiji, you were absolutely crazy man. But you also knew your stuff and were an amazing player. Najja you were in our first 25-man raid where we downed Maulgar. You raided with us for over a year and made 88% of our raids. Thanks for being there for us, Lizzylocks. I rememeber when you came into our raid under another guild tag to help us before you joined. Gadorade, you took so much crap from us but you were an amazing healer. Heck, you could beat me with lesser gear on some fights. Ferru, you did a nice job of adapting to the fights and made most of our raids. I know you left a while ago Impact, but I think you were a nice person and you definitely knew your stuff. Cevila, you may not have been the most vocal person on vent, but what you lacked in words you certainly made up for in DPS. Hailstorm, I'm sorry you keep having bad luck with guilds, but I'm sure someday you will find a guild worthy of your skill and loyalty. I feel bad for you, Mart. Some of us wanted you here for a while, but you only got to join after things started to go downhill. Velius I think playing as boomkin was different for you, but I think you did a good job with it. You may have left a while ago, Xelnaga, but we all still remember you. Ovrzls, I'm sorry you had to go, but I understand. I know you learned a lot here and I hope you take the good memories and forget the bad. I really hope you still keep in touch via this website. Johnnywho, you always helped in any way you could. It's too bad you didn't get to see BT with us. You always took things in stride, Forhead, and your loyalty to this guild could never be repaid. You stayed with us even though the group of people you came with left. I know how much you wanted to keep playing too, but your work schedule wouldn't allow it. Fyreheart, I understood your reason for leaving, even though I didn't want it to come to that. Thank you for your dedication and friendship all the way to the end. You never did leave us, Balt, and you would have been to more raids if RL would have allowed it. You were also a very dedicated raider and you would do anything to help us. And I haven't forgotten our cutest mage ever, Julie. You really improved your game and took advice well. I really enjoyed meeting you at the Cedar Point trip and wish we could have had more time to hang out. Mareak, aka Alexios, I'm sorry this had to happen when it did. You were an amazing tank (a warrior tank with no CC in H Ramps is pretty uber) and a good person all around. Most of us remember, Maresca, for he hasn't been gone all that long. Talk about dedication; he was here for every single raid from the day he joined till the day he left. Although some people might still hold a grudge toward, Whitedwarf, I think we should remember that he stepped up to the plate when Daphny left. He started off as the guild's off-tank but filled the MT role very nicely.

Don't think that I have forgotten my fellow officers, both past and present. Where would we be without our former GM, Dave? I honestly don't think I could have picked up the torch in the past when things were looking rough. I saw the stress it put him under, and I had an idea of what I was getting into, but nothing can really prepare you unless you've done it before. Thank you for keeping us together as long as you did. There were many times in the past where we could have given up but didn't, and I'm glad we got to see the real end of this expansion. Andrew, you cracked me up. You were also a good friend and were the guy running things behind the curtains sometimes. I just hope people realize how much time and effort you put into recruiting, even after you and Dave quit. Larry, you were the reason I joined this guild in the first place. Although work took you away from this game, I will always remember that it was you who inspired me to play a priest in the first place. Shane, you did a great job as the hunter class lead. You knew your stuff and could evaluate people very well. You also helped keep our guild stocked with potions and various herbs. By the way I think I still have the picture of us on the Millennium Force at Cedar Point, I just need to find it. Tom, you were an amazing shaman. You joined us and started topping the charts immediately. Although you left us, you should certainly not be blamed for the eventual breakup of this guild. It was going to happen sooner or later. Kayla, I really hope you don't have any hard feelings toward me. I really enjoyed playing with you and I still remember those days when I used to have to compete with you as a healer. Keep sending me pictures of Peanut and I'll try to take more of Jake Smile . Kevin, I know you only recently became an officer, but you were always a leader and an awesome healer. I'm glad I got to meet you at Cedar Point and watch you play at the LAN arcade. Mike, I know we had our differences at times, but I always respected you as a person. You really did a great job of filling in for Whitedwarf even though you were significantly lesser geared than he was. I hope you find whatever you are looking for in this game and in your life. Jay, you were the voice of reason when things got out of hand and we lost sight of the big picture. You also had no trouble bringing in your shaman to help heal when it was called for. And Sam, I have not forgotten you. You and I used to top the charts when I used to play my mage. I still watch that old VR video and remember that exact moment when you and I pulled aggro from the tanks. You were my 2s partner and close friend in this game. Take care, bud.

So again, thank you all for giving me experiences and friendships that will last for years to come. I truly believe that we ended this guild at it's peak and you need to remember that there is nothing wrong with that. Don't look back at this guild and remember it as a failure; just look back and remember the good times we had and how quickly we progressed through this game and beat it before the expansion. We all know that Sunwell was just the Bonus Round.

Your Friend,
Chris

PS I know I didn't name everyone in my post but please include yourselves in the "everyone" category as there are many great players that have come and gone through this guild.

Farewell Spartacus
Posted by divax on Tuesday, September 02, 2008 (06:24:17) (159 reads)

November, 22nd 2006, the day Spartacus was created. We have been running this guild for nearly two whole years. We’ve seen the guild’s ups and downs from the 10 mans of Karazhan to breaking into Sunwell. But it’s time for us to move on with my life.

WoW wasn’t just a game that we could just let go. It wasn’t even because we were addicted to it. It was because of the people in the guild, you guys made this game 10x better.

We would like to thank all of you, officers, members, recruits, and random people that supported us throughout our journey. If it wasn’t for your dedication we would not have gone this far. You guys have given us an opportunity to see all this great content and great times.

If you ask us what was the most important thing we’ve learned on our journey…
Never lose yourself in something where you forget your friends, family, health, and happiness.

Your Friends,

Dave and Andrew
